Hanabi (Japanese Fireworks)
Hanabi (fireworks) is a symbol of summer in Japan, and thousands of fireworks displays are held throughout the country each year.
This event is said to have originated in the custom of the Edo people, viewing fireworks while enjoying the cool of the evening. This has now taken root as one of the delightful scenes of the summer season. Japan Rail Pass is the best way to catch sight of Hanabi across Japan.

As a traditional outfit, yukata are usually worn to the fireworks as they are perfectly suited to the hot days of a Japanese summer. Made of cotton and linen, yukata have been adored by Japanese for hundreds of years and the accompanying wooden or bamboo sandals also present an image of visual coolness.
